Richard Wright dies
Pink Floyd founder and keyboard player Richard Wright died yesterday following a battle with Cancer.
A spokesman for the family issued the following statement: “The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness, that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer.
“The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
Floyd guitarist David Gilmour posted a tribute on his blog: “I really don’t know what to say other than that he was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him.
“And that’s a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show in 2006?”
Wright, 65, was still touring with Gilmour on his last solo tour in 2006, and joined the other surviving members for their rapturously well-received reunion at Live8 in 2005. He played on every Pink Floyd tour and on every album except The Final Cut, after he briefly left the band due to personal conflicts with Roger Waters.
