A Tribute To Les Paul, featuring Les Paul
On October 6 Immergent Records will release Children of The Future: A Tribute To A Legend. The record, featuring all new recordings, some of which are brand new originals, some are covers (e.g. U2’s All I Ever Want Is You) includes performances by several of the World’s most recognisable guitarists.
Velvet Revolver’s Slash, Joe Bonamassa, Goo Goo Dolls’s Johnny Rzeznik, Peter Frampton, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora, Toto’s Steve Lukather and Edgar Winter are amongst the guitar talent on display alongside the likes of Mick Hucknall (Simply Red) and Joan Osborne.
But what sets this apart from the previously available tribute albums that have been made is that the 93 year old Les Paul plays on eight of the thirteen tracks which are mere recreations of his own songs, but tracks which demonstrate the incredible influence his playing and techniques have had on the musicianship of the players involved.
Slash: “This is a record where instead of playing Les Paul’s music & trying to imitate his inimitable style, it is a showcase of guitar players doing their own thing, but in tribute to his influence on our musicianship, recording techniques and use of effects. All of which wouldn’t be anything like what they are if it weren’t for Les Paul’s creative and technical pioneering genius. And, at 93 yrs old he is still as obsessed with pioneering as many new gadgets & techniques to make life more interesting, as he always has been.”
Indeed Paul still plays live every monday night in New York, which is a residency he has been playing for decades.
